National ABEN Day 2022 - 10/27/2022Thursday, October 27, 2022 (10:00 AM - 4:30 PM) (EDT)DescriptionWe are so excited to offer our 2nd Annual National ABEN Day! The theme of this year's event is - Navigating the New and Non-Traditional Workplace. There are so many facets to that broad subject! With what all agents/and agencies have been through in the last few years, we all need to pivot to learn new ways to communicate and navigate. Here are a few touch points from the classes that are part of National ABEN Day - 2022:
Gigs and Side Hustles - The Insurance Issues - 2 hrs - Rick Pitts This seminar provides a fast-paced look at the personal and commercial lines insurance issues that have been created in the gig economy and its new players; Uber, Touro, Hertz, Avis, Airbonb and VRBO. The insurance ramifications are discussed. Next, there will be an examination of the particulars with regard to both the personal auto policy form and homeowners form. Rick addresses the issues connected to the gig economy from the perspective of an employer in a more traditional business model. Simply put, can gig workers be held to be employees, despite the efforts of employers to treat them as temporary workers and therefore independent contractors? This section examines some case law and also some employment law developments that may influence the question not only from the perspective of the commercial liability policy, but more particularly the workers compensation laws. Lastly, a hypothetical question is discussed about whether a restaurant, or an app such as Door Dash, can or should be held liable when a driver has an accident while delivering food The restaurant's needs, driver needs and underlying liability issues are discussed. 15 min break How to Thrive in a Ever Changing Work Environment - 1 hr - Terry Tadlock This seminar will address the positive effects that Organizational Culture can have on your agency. While many E&O classes focus on mistakes employees can make that create potential problems, this course will attempt to create an awareness that there are steps we can take as an organization in creating a positive agency culture, that can eliminate many potential E&O issues before they arise. Employees that thrive work better together, collaborate better and communicate better, thus reducing the exposure for E&O loss. We will also discuss the ever-changing Personnel Management issues of remote workforces and how they contribute to your organizations culture and success. 1 hr Lunch To Be or Not to Airbnb- Sharing Exposure and Insurance - 2 hrs - Stuart Powell This course addresses aspects of the emerging sharing economy’s use of personal autos and homes. It provides a discussion of the nature of these exposures and how Personal Auto policies and Homeowners policies respond.
